Who Norm Needleman is
Norm Needleman started working at thirteen in his father's one-man grocery store, drove a New York City taxi through college, and four years after a chance conversation with a passenger launched his own pharmaceutical company, Tower Laboratories. The company has been based in the district for over thirty years and employs more than 150 people in Connecticut. He is still its CEO, working alongside his two sons. He is in his eighth term as Essex First Selectman, where he has brought Democrats and Republicans together and kept property taxes among the lowest in the state without cutting services.
Norm Needleman takes no salary, no benefits and no pension as a state senator, and the lowest amount legally allowed as Essex First Selectman. His business success allows him to serve without being paid. He is not in it for personal gain
Connecticut households pay among the highest electricity prices in the country and should expect a world-class system, not what we have. Eversource has repeatedly failed to meet its responsibilities, cutting repair staff and equipment to save money while service got worse. Norm Needleman supports enhanced regulation of public utilities and requiring utilities to maintain adequate staffing and equipment as a matter of public safety
In Essex he kept property taxes among the lowest in the state without cutting services, and in Hartford he has voted to send millions in additional education funding to local towns specifically to hold down property taxes, and to deliver child tax credits to working families
