Senate District 18
Who Joe de la Cruz is
Joe de la Cruz is a small business owner, retired union sheet metal worker, and former State Representative. In the State House, Joe worked with both parties for commonsense solutions. He fought to lower the costs of health care, prescription drugs, and energy costs and voted to provide tax cuts for middle class families and help small businesses grow. In the State Senate, he will work to take on corporate greed to make health care more affordable and cut premiums, take on Eversource to cut utility rates, and invest in our schools and towns to help lower property taxes.
Joe de la Cruz has seen how skyrocketing healthcare premiums are hurting our families with premiums doubling and tripling for some Connecticut families. In the State House, he fought to lower costs for health care and prescription drugs. In the State Senate, he will work for universal health coverage so no family has to go without critical care, even when life circumstances change.
As State Representative, Joe de la Cruz worked to bring millions of dollars in funding for local schools. In the State Senate, he will keep fighting to bring more funding for towns and school districts to lessen the burden on local budgets and avoid property tax increases.
Who Heather Somers is
Somers supports Donald Trump’s MAGA policies that have been driving up gas and pharmaceutical prices, threaten abortion rights, and stopped wind and solar development. Trump’s policies have also forced people to pay higher healthcare premiums, with some Connecticut residents paying twice or three times as much, and gutted Medicaid in Connecticut.
Somers supports the dangerous anti-vaccination stances of RFK, Jr. and Trump’s health department that put our kids and public health at risk. Despite a rise in cases of measles and other previously nearly eradicated diseases, Somers says parents should not have to vaccinate their children.
