Senate District 17
Who Jorge Cabrera is
Jorge Cabrera is your state senator. A union organizer who has been working since he was 16, Cabrera has been focused on working with both parties to make life more affordable. He worked with Republicans and Democrats to cap the cost of childcare, cut electric bills for every Connecticut resident, and lower the cost of prescription drugs. Jorge also helped increase renewable energy production to lower utility prices, improve workers’ compensation protections, and expand retirement security. In the State Senate, Cabrera will continue to lower costs, invest in our schools and towns, and fight for our workers and veterans.
Jorge Cabrera has helped to improve healthcare and make it more affordable in Connecticut. He voted to make it easier to access life-saving, cutting-edge treatments like gene therapy, cap prescription drug price increases, and make it easier to import generic drugs from Canada to increase competition and drive down costs. Jorge also voted to invest in nursing and social worker training and to expand dental coverage for veterans in need.
Jorge Cabrera has helped invest in Connecticut schools so all of our kids, regardless of where they live, can have a quality education that prepares them for the future. He's worked to increase funding for schools, ensuring class sizes are small and that schools can afford to attract the best and brightest teachers. Jorge has also worked to invest in early childhood education, fill funding gaps created by Trump, and provide low-interest loans for high-skill, advanced education in fields like teaching, nursing, and social work.
Jorge Cabrera has been working with Democrats and Republicans to reduce crime and strengthen public safety. He secured funding for new equipment for local police and for the Hamden fire station. He pushed to crack down on street takeovers, voted to criminalize abusive deepfake images created with A.I., and he helped get firefighters with skin cancer access to the Firefighters Cancer Relief Program.
Jorge Cabrera is a leader in fighting back against rising grocery prices. Connecticut was just the second state to ban surveillance pricing at grocery and big box stores. This means that companies can't use your internet search history, purchase history, or other personal data to charge some people more than their neighbors for certain products just to maximize their own profits. Grocery stores have been using this to charge certain people more for eggs, milk, and other essentials based on personal data.
Who John-Paul Dorais is
John-Paul Dorais is backed by an organization that supports Donald Trump’s MAGA policies that have been driving up gas and pharmaceutical prices, threaten abortion rights, and stopped wind and solar development. Dorais even publicly supported Trump’s immigration policies that are terrorizing our immigrant communities in hospitals, schools, and places of worship.
John-Paul Dorais wants to run the state budget but can’t even meet his own obligations. He has repeatedly been late on his taxes, and a lien was placed on a house he owned for stiffing contractors and construction workers after they worked on the property.
