Who James Maroney is

James Maroney grew up in Milford, where he served as a school board member and now serves as State Senator and small business owner. As Senator, Maroney is a national leader on holding big tech companies accountable, passing first-of-its-kind data privacy laws protecting kids online and setting guidelines for how the state uses artificial intelligence. He worked across party lines to pass a balanced budget that made historic reductions to Connecticut’s long-term debt while protecting the biggest tax cut for middle class families in Connecticut’s history. Maroney will work to lower costs for energy, healthcare and childcare, increase funding for our public schools, and help seniors.

  • Led the fight against Silicon Valley technology companies to protect Connecticut families’ data and other personal information. He wrote the law banning the sale or sharing of precise geolocation data that companies buy and sell to target consumers without their knowledge, allowing people to opt out of facial recognition used by private businesses, holding A.I. companies accountable when their products cause harm, and restricting their ability to target underage kids on social media with algorithmic content.

  • Passed the law to make childcare more affordable for everyone. One of the first of its kind, Maroney’s law caps the cost of childcare to no more than 17 percent of any Connecticut family’s income, meaning the average family would pay no more than 560 dollars per month for childcare.

  • Is a leader in fighting back against rising grocery prices, writing a first of its kind law to ban surveillance pricing at grocery and big box stores. That means companies cannot use your internet search history, purchase history or other personal data to charge some people more than their neighbors for certain products just to maximize their own profits. Grocery stores have been using this to charge certain people more for eggs, milk and other essentials based on personal data.

Who Owen Weaver is

  • Backed by an organization that supports Donald Trump’s policies that have been driving up gas and pharmaceutical prices, threaten abortion rights, and stopped wind and solar development.

  • Supports the dangerous anti-vaccination stances of RFK Jr. and Trump’s health department that put our kids and public health at risk. Despite a rise in cases of measles and other previously nearly eradicated diseases, Weaver says parents should not have to vaccinate their children.

  • Supports making dramatic cuts to funding for schools in cities and towns across the state, which would force our local towns to raise local property taxes to make up the deficit.
